You’ve all heard of the Federal Bureau of Investigation(FBI), or the Drug Enforcement Administration(DEA), but have you heard of the U.S. Marshals? Probably not, right? Well, did you know that this storied and well-respected law enforcement agency had, in 2012, captured 123,006 wanted fugitives? That was more than all other branches of law enforcement, combined. The U.S. Marshals go back to the bygone era of the Wild West, posses, and the O.K. Corral(If you don’t know what this is[shame!], just watch the movie Tombstone. Or search up the “O.K. Corral Gunfight” on the Internet. The movie is more fun, though.) However, the Marshals Service of today is wildly different from the past, and is currently spearheading a law enforcement revolution across the nation. From the FBI, to the ATF, and the DEA, the Marshall’s Service has helped create a law enforcement system in which agencies cooperate and deputies are able to capture criminals without hindrance. Jump into this book to learn about the Marshals, both present and past, as some of their finest recount their most storied tales!
Likes: I liked this book as it really gave me an introduction into the U.S. Marshall’s Service, an agency I didn’t really know much about. It was really interesting learning about the ways the Marshalls conduct their operations, and the sometimes shocking results that can come out when agencies work together. The takedown of dangerous criminals was honestly pretty intriguing to read about, and I think that this is one book I would be willing to reread. However, after a certain point, the book starts to feel repetitive with each arrest playing out kinda similarly.
Recommendations: I would recommend this book to kids ages 16 and above, as it has references to sexual assault(including child molestation), and has the descriptions of some pretty gruesome murders. If you are interested in learning about America’s many law enforcement agencies, or just want to know who a deputy is, this is a good place to start.
