Plot: June 3, 2560. John-117, otherwise known as the Master Chief, stands over the Harbinger’s cold, lifeless body in the Silent Auditorium. After a grueling campaign, he had finally done it: he had removed most of the Banished High Command from Zeta Halo permanently, and had given humanity a fighting chance. But the mission isn’t over yet. Escharum’s(the now dead Banished War Chief) right hand man, Jega R’domnai, was still alive and kicking. And that was never a good thing. With the arrival of a scarred, broken, but still breathing combat medic who held secrets about the Harbinger and Jega, John must now continue the fight, and finish Jega R’domnai once and for all. Shall he succeed, and gain new knowledge of the enemy? Or shall he fail and end up dooming humanity? Only time can tell…
Likes: I have recently played Halo: Infinite, and this book is the perfect continuation to the campaign of the game, as it helps fans understand what Chief does after his victory in the Silent Auditorium. We also get more information about John’s new allies(his AI, Joyeus, and his pilot, Fernando Esparza.) and other side characters that were elaborated on in the book Halo: The Rubicon Protocol. Both books were written by Kelly Gay. This book is up there with Rubicon, and I think it is a spot well earned.
Recommendations: This book is definitely for ages 15 and above. If you enjoy Halo lore, and have played Halo: Infinite, this book is right up your alley, as it builds upon the narrative already laid down by 343 Studios and provides more context about what humanity is really up against. However, if you have no knowledge whatsoever of what I am talking about here, go play Halo: Infinite(or watch a video breaking the narrative and gameplay down) and read Halo: The Rubicon Protocol so you know the context behind whatever happens here. Overall, it is a very good book that just requires some knowledge to truly enjoy.
