Plot: In December 2559, the UNSC Infinity was attacked by the Banished above Zeta Halo, resulting in the destruction of both the Infinity and its entire complement of destroyers and frigates. The survivors of the battle end up on the ring below them, and are pitched into a battle for survival against an alien threat whose intentions are unknown. As casualties mount and the whereabouts of humanity’s hero, the Master Chief, remain unknown, unlikely figures must take up the mount and do whatever they can to send a desperate plea for help to their allies. However, Escharum and the Banished will do whatever it takes to stop them, and eradicate the ring of human presence. Who will prevail?

Likes: Recently, I’ve been playing the games Halo: Infinite and Halo 5: Guardians, and fell in love with the entire series. As a result, I’ve ended up diving into the lore of the Halo universe, and this book by Kelly Gay is the perfect book for the new generation of Halo players. It fills in all the gaps in the narrative of Infinite, and helps the reader understand what happened on Zeta Halo when the Master Chief was stuck in space for six months. Overall, it is a very well written book that will stay one of my personal favorites.

Recommendations: If you are a Halo fan/enjoy playing Halo, this book would definitely be for you. It really helps provide more context to those audio files you find throughout Infinite and makes the universe feel more alive. However, if you are uninitiated into the world of Halo or have just started playing, I would recommend holding off on this book until you get some context as to what exactly the book is talking about. Play either Halo 5: Guardians and/or Halo: Infinite first, then leap into this book. Or don’t, and get a taste of what Halo is like. Remember: Plans change. They always do.
