Plot: A calm dinner at a New Jersey restaurant explodes into chaos when a gunman attempts to kill a high ranking Navy Commander, Scott Hagen. Scott survives, but before he can interrogate the gunman, who was a Russian that had a brother on a submarine Scott destroyed, the gunman perishes. Days later, a CIA spy in Tehran with rock-solid cover gets arrested and interned in Iran, only because he put his fingerprints on an airport security device. As more and more US Servicemen get captured or killed, it becomes clear to the government that some sort of massive data breach has occurred. Now, the responsibility of finding the hacker and neutralizing a threat to national security falls on an elite, off-the-records group called The Campus, comprised of crack special forces and, more importantly, a man named Jack Ryan Jr.. Their investigation reveals a horrendous plot that can only be stopped by one man: Jack Ryan Jr.’s father; The President.
Likes: This book has all the makings of an action-thriller novel that kept me riveted to every page, and was extremely enjoyable to read. I found it hard to put down the book, and, once I finished it, felt like reading it again. It is very interesting to read, and I personally really enjoyed this. However, if you want to really enjoy this book, you will need to know more about the Tom Clancy universe and read some of the older books that help build up to this, like “The Hunt For Red October.” Otherwise, you will find it harder to follow this.
Recommendations: I would recommend this book to anyone above the age of 16, as there are plenty of swears and depictions of violence/gore that are just not suitable for younger children. Also, most of the geopolitics and associated strings would just go over their heads, and they will be left confused and bored. If you like military action-thrillers, Tom Clancy books/games, or just want a good book to read, I would highly recommend this to you.
