America has had 45 presidents in its 250 years of existence, and each one of them have changed this country as they came and went, for better or for worse. This book by Bill O’Reilly and Martin Dugard provides insightful and no-spin portraits of each and every president until Biden, and covers their individual achievements, or lack thereof. Confronting The Presidents covers everything from daily routines, meals, and quirks to the country and life-changing decisions made by the leaders we have and had elected. How does one decision made by one leader in a bygone era affect a different generation, and how does it resonate today? Who were the First Ladies, and what influence did they have? Which presidents fell victim to assassination apart from JFK and Lincoln? What was George H. W. Bush’s most famous(and funny) speech? And who were the best, the worst, and the most obscure presidents? All of these questions, plus others, are answered in this comprehensive account of America’s leaders. Flip the page to learn about some of the greatest(and worst) political figures America has ever seen!
Likes: I enjoyed this book since it 1) gave a really objective and informational account of the presidents, and 2) was written in a style that makes history feel less like a chore and more like something that sounds like it was pulled from a thriller film. The writing style of the authors in this book helps pull the plot of the book along, and keeps the reader engaged. Plus, who can say no to reading George H.W. Bush’s speech about broccoli? Overall, this is a book I really enjoyed!
Recommendations: I would recommend this book to anyone above the age of 14. The book, while is pretty much clean, does include one or two F-bombs and does have some pretty complex historical breakdowns that younger aged kids simply would not understand. If you enjoy politics, history, or want to learn about the presidents of the United States, I would highly recommend this book to you.
