If you like Sherlock Holmes(or really any good fictional crime books) this anthology of lost murder mysteries is for you! In The Penguin Book of Murder Mysteries, you will find authors and characters that were lost to the pages of history like Andrew Forrester Jr.’s Mrs. G or Charles W. Chestnut’s Sheriff Campbell. These stories vary from tales about love that has a bloody ending to sorrowful, grounded stories that revolve around the ordinary, poor cobbler. This book is a celebration of how the authors of the 19th century added their own little twists and turns to the ancient stories of murder.
Likes: I liked this book since, as an avid reader and fan of Sherlock Holmes, this book resonated with me deeply. The stories are masterfully written, and transport you back to a different time. Some of the stories have wonderful little twists that show you the most innocent looking person could in reality be a dangerous killer.
Recommendations: I would recommend this book to anyone above the age of 12 since some of the books invoke details about racism that would be inappropriate for younger ages. Anyone who has enjoyed Sherlock Holmes or Agatha Christie will thoroughly enjoy this book.
