WWII has seen many heroes on both sides, many of whom are unsung. However, some of these heroes from America are recognized and are awarded the U.S. Army’s highest award: the Congressional Medal of Honor. This book talks about four Medal of Honor recipients: Maurice “Footsie” Britt, Keith Ware, Audie Murphy, and Michael Daly. Maurice Britt would become the first American soldier to receive every medal for valor in WWII, while Audie Murphy would be the most decorated American soldier of all time, also receiving every award for valor in WWII. Keith Ware would become the first and only American draftee to become a four-star general, and would go on to serve in Vietnam. Michael Daly was a West Point dropout who risked his neck again and again, just to save the lives of his men. All of these men were awarded the Medal of Honor, yet so few know their names. This book will tell you about the valor, sacrifice, and courage it took each man to win the U.S.A’s highest military award.
Likes: I like this book since it is about my favorite subject, history, and that it paints a vivid scene of the action going on. The book is full of details which help show what was going on for each man at the time, while also being stuffed with facts that add on to the scenes.
Recommendations: I would recommend this book to ages 15 and up, since this book has some inappropriate details that are not suitable for younger ages. The book also gets a little violent at times, and would scare younger children.
