ABANDON SHIP

Plot:On September 12, 1942, the RMS Laconia, a British navy vessel was attacked and sunk by a German U-Boat. The Germans thought they had sunk a regular ship at sea, but what they didn’t know was that, below the decks of the Laconia, 1,400 Italian POWs were being held.. Once the Germans realized their folly, they quickly tried to make the waters a neutral zone of war. 3 U-boats came to the scene of the Laconia‘s sinking and picked up survivors from all nationalities. But when an American bomber flies overhead and bombs the U-boats, that all changes. People are left at sea to survive, and those who do so have little water and food. This book is a true account and follows the stories of true survivors with photographs of the people mentioned in this book, and is a testament to the truth that humanity supersedes the cruelness of war.

Likes: I like this book since it is about history and has true accounts in it. The way the author has written the book is skillful and the book itself is full of suspense, drama, and action.

Recommendations: I recommend this book to ages 11 and up, since younger children will find this book too graphic and violent for them. Anyone interested in the naval history of WWII will want to read this book.
