Plot: Its 1941, and everything is just right in the United States. While Europe is in a World War, Uncle Sam is enjoying a moment of peace. This book is about two fictional characters, Frank and Stanley. Frank and Stanley are best friends. They both live on Ford Island, next to Pearl Harbor on the island of Oahu in Hawaii. Stanley is Japanese American, while Frank is white. On December 7, they tour the U.S.S. Utah, an American battleship, when the bombs and bullets rain down from the heavens. Japan had attacked the United States, and this spelled trouble for the two boys. If they survived this ordeal, which had killed so many others, what would happen to their friendship? Read the book to find out!
Likes: I like this book since it has a good mix of suspense, action, and drama. The way the author has incorporated his characters into Pearl Harbor is seamless, and the plot of the story is exceptionally crafted. This will be on my shelf for a while.
Recommendations: I would recommend this book to ages 12 and above, since some scenes in this book are disturbing and and gruesome for younger ages. If you are an Alan Gratz fan and enjoy his style of books, you should definitely check this book out.
