Plot: Fourth grader Amy Anne Ollinger gets the shock of her life when her favorite book , “From the Mixed up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler” gets banned from the library of Shelbourne Elementary school. She finds out that her pet peeve Trey’s mother has been banning all the books she deemed “inappropriate”. Amy Anne and a few other friends decide to take action and start a banned book library that has every single book that the school board banned. She is eventually caught, but manages to keep fighting the board. She even goes to court, twice, to fight over what kids should, and shouldn’t read.
Likes: I like this book mostly because it is by one of my favorite authors, Alan Gratz! every single book of his marvelous! Secondly, this book has references to other books that have been challenged in the past, like Bridge to Terrabithia, Captain Underpants, The Egypt Game and Matilda. Also, the plot of the book is very detailed and includes vivid sensory and figurative speech.
Recommendation: I recommend this book to kids 10 years and older, since this is easier to read than other book by Alan Gratz and does not have any unsavory details.
