People have used a lot of weapons since we learned how to make tools. From flint knives and stone axes, broadswords and claymores, Berettas and AK47s, this book covers them all! Each page in this encyclopedia is about weapons like combat knives, katanas and wazikashis, halberds(crosses between spears and axes), flintlocks and pre world war era guns, all the way to modern weapons like Tommy Guns and Desert Eagle pistols. There are also pages in between which talk about either a iconic weapon like the AK47 or great warriors like Samurai. Can you imagine that humans used to use sharpened rocks as weapons for hunting?! Imagine how long it must have taken to get from sharpened stones to machine guns and rifles! This book is not just about weapons, though. It is human history! Every page is like going back in time to the time of cavemen, knights, samurai, even Napoleon! The book has diagrams showing how the weapon actually works, like how a modern pistol actually shoots the bullet which is very fascinating for anyone who is interested in how weapons work. This book is chock-full of information about weapons used around the world, from the beginning of humans all the way to the the present and beyond!
Likes: I like this book since it is about-you guessed it-history! Every page in the book shows multiple weapons, with an accurate photo of the sword/dagger/gun/spear, etc. The description that comes with each weapon has a good amount of information in it but not so much that the reader gets overwhelmed. Every picture has little arrows pointing to specific parts of the weapon like the pommel, hilt, breech, muzzle, etc. These show the parts of the weapon so that readers won’t have a hard time with the complex vocabulary.
Recommendations: I recommend this book to ages 10 and above, since some of the words and diagrams will be difficult to understand for younger children. Also, some of the descriptions for the great warriors might be a little scary for younger readers. Anyone who has an interest in human history, anthropology, and warcraft should really check out this book!
