Plot: During WWII, Poland housed some of the most expensive and sought after horses in the world, Arabians and Lipizzaners. During the war, they were in danger of being killed by the advancing Russian Army and being stolen by the retreating Germans. A small group of Americans and Poles attempt to defend the horses and take them to America were they would be safe from the war. Many horses would be lost, perish, or get wounded. They had to survive long train rides and dangerous ship crossings. Above all, it is a story of sheer determination and survival to save some of the world’s most precious horses.
Likes: I like this book because it is a true story based on history and WWII. Also, this book has a section full of photos of the horses, trainers, and locations. The plot is easy to follow and describes quite a lot about the people(and horses), times, and scenarios involved.
Recommendation: I recommend this book to ages 10 and up since some of the details are hard to follow and may be even sad for younger kids. This book is for anyone who likes WWII history, or horses, since the whole story revolves around both subjects.
