Plot: Vercingetorix has laid his arms down at the feet of Julius Caesar. All of Gaul has fallen to the Roman Empire. All? No…one small village still defies the Roman Empire and life is not easy for the surrounding Roman Camps of Aquarium, Totorum, Laudanum and Compendium. This compact omnibus has four stories of Asterix and his friend Obelix. The first story, Asterix The Gaul, introduces the readers to the world of Asterix and how the Romans are trying to take over the village and failing miserably. The second book, Asterix and the Golden Sickle, is about Asterix’s journey to Lutetia to get a new golden sickle for the village druid. The third book, Asterix and the Goths, revolves around the druid who has been kidnapped by the goths(the Germans). The fourth book, Asterix the Gladiator, is about how Asterix became a gladiator in the Circus Maximus in Rome.
Likes: I like this book since it is a comic and is very well written with a lot of drawings. The entire story is very nice with the Gauls bashing up the Romans (and the occasional pirates). Also, there is a lot of action but no violence so younger kids can enjoy the book too!
Recommendations: I recommend this book to kids 8 and up since it makes a good easy reading book for young readers and is not hard or complicated.
