THE FOURTEENTH GOLDFISH

Plot: This book is by Jennifer L. Holm, three time Newbery Honor-Winning author. Twelve year old Ellie Cruz is enjoying her life, or not, when a strange and cranky teenager appears on her doorstep. He seems familiar yet different. It turns out that this old school teenager is actually her grandfather (a scientists who works in a lab), who found the ” fountain of youth”! Her grandfather actually found a jellyfish that can turn a 65 year old man into a 15 year old teen. He wants to continue his studies, but the problem is his appearance has changed. Ellie, her grandfather and some other people have an entire adventure trying to get back the jellyfish. It’s not just a lost and found story. It’s the story of a teenager, adapting to middle school, making new friends and enemies. It’s the story of a grumpy geek who is now trapped in the body os a 15 year old. In short- this book is a lot of things.

Likes: I like this book because it has to do with science. I also like this book because it is very creative and shows what the unknown may behold. The way the author spins the story is very descriptive and helps the readers play the scenes in their imagination.

Recommendation: I recommend this book to ages 9 and above. Some of the context is a little difficult for younger kids to follow. I think everyone must read this book for its imaginative and creative tale.
