GUTS & GLORY- THE VIKINGS

This is a book by Ben Thompson. June 8, AD 793- on a tiny island right off the coast of England is a chapel guarded by monks and dazzled with jewels. It is usually peaceful on this island but today there is something strange. Two slender boats are approaching the island. By the time the monks can see the carved dragon heads and the glistening armor of the barbarians, it is too late. The barbarians ravage the island, killing monks, setting houses on fire and entering the chapel and absolutely pillaging it. This was one of the many raids that the Vikings inflicted. This book talks more about this particular raid and many many more. Vikings were primarily plunderers, while a few decided to explore and sail the seven seas. From Erik the Red, all the way to the Varangian Guard, this book covers everything there is to know about the ferocious Norsemen- so don your armor, grab this book and be ready to experience the most epic battles, stunning myths, and boiled boar with mint sauce(Sorry, can’t help using stuff from Asterix!) and be amazed!

Likes: I like this book because it’s History, my favorite subject. Seriously, I could tell about all about the vikings and by the end you would be snoring, but I digress!! Another reason I like this book is that it has images that actually depict the battles. These are all real stories and that’s what makes this book so cool!

Recommendation: I recommend this book to ages 10 and up since the description of the battles could be too bloody and horrifying for younger kids. It is a good read with a lot of information and action.
