Plot: Palmer LaRue lives in his hometown of Waymer and is about to turn 10, but for him it’s not cool at all. At ten years old, kids become wringers. People at the Pigeon Shooting Day wring the injured pigeons’ necks. Palmer doesn’t want to become one. When he finds a pigeon on his window sill, who eventually becomes his pet, he decides that he has to act and fight for what he believes. This is a story of this and the pigeon and it teaches kids how to stand up for what you believe in.
Likes: I like this book because it teaches me to stand up for what I believe in. The story is very interesting and almost feels real. The events are explained in a very descriptive and interesting fashion.
Recommendation: I recommend this book to kids 10 years and older and anyone who appreciates Jerry Spinelli’s terrific writing style.
