Plot: Refugee is a story based on true events from history. All characters are fictional, living the life that once was true for a group of people during the darkest times in history. Josef, Isabel and Mahmoud are three kids who go through harrowing journeys to seek refuge and safety. Josef is living during the infamous Nazi period in the 19030s. He has the threat of concentration camps looming over him and his family. he decides to board a ship and run away to Cuba with his family. Isabel is a Cuban girl in 1934. With their country in turmoil she decides to make a raft and flee to Florida with her family. Mahmoud is Syrian boy is living in 2015 in Syria. Violence and constant bombing are destroying his country so he decides to run to Germany with his family.
Likes: I live this book because it revolves around true events and is packed with action, suspense and fear. The stories are very interesting and it gives you a taste how what lives were in these difficult and scary times. These three tales with of bravery, courage and fear will amaze the young readers.
Recommendation: I recommend this book to kids ages 9 and above since the harrowing tales might be too heavy for younger readers.
