Plot: This is a book by Helen Frost. It is a story of friendship during the time of War of 1812, based on true events. A young Indian boy Anikwa and his American friend, James are caught in a war between the Americans and the British. They are both 12 years of age. This books talks about how they kept their friendship even during the hardest times.
Likes: I like this book because it is really fun and interesting. Anikwa from a tribe of Native Americans who live in Kekionga while James lives in an American stockade. The author has described the times with some gunshots, without focussing on the war. Rather the author describes the boys, their relationship, their families and their lives. For example, Anikwa and his family had to fish and and work hard for resources, while James had it easier.
Recommendation: I recommend this book to kids and 9 years and older since the topic is slightly mature. Also, anyone who likes to read books based on history or historical events will enjoy this one. This book is awarded the Children’s History Book Prize, 2013 Nerdy Award Poetry Winner, and many more. I think this book makes a great gift!
