This book has 5 stories by Bankim Chandra, compiled in one book. Bankim Chandra Chatterji was a poet who wrote “Vande Mataram”, the inspirational song dedicated to India and its freedom fighters. He was a very bright student and rumors are that he learned his alphabets in one day! In this book, there are five amazing, amazing, amazing stories such as Kapala Kundala, Raj Singh, Anand Math, Durgesh Nandini and Devi Choudhurani. In the first story, a girl named Kapala Kundala is raised by an evil tantric and she is still not illusioned by his evil. This is her story. Raj Singh is the king of Udaipur, Rajasthan. The king gets a call for help from the smart and willful princess Chanchal of Roopnagar. The quiet and peaceful lady Prafulla becomes Devi Choudharani after meeting Bhavani Thakur. She becomes the queen or the leader of a dreaded group of bandits. Mahendra, the zamindar of a village learns about what his motherland is going through. Despite her 60 crore children she lies captive. He meets a group of people, called Santaans who were fighting against the oppressors, the British.This is the story Anand Math. Jagat Singh is the prince of Amber. he falls in love with Durgesh Nandini, who is the daughter of his father’s nemesis.

Likes: I like this book because it has short stories that are so interesting, I want to read them over and over again. It has a comic twist and the pictures are very colorful.

Recommendation: I recommnd this book to anyone who likes to read stories from India. I think kids 9 and up will love this book just as much as I did.
