Plot: This novel written by Grace Lin is a Chinese folktale. It is about a girl, Minli, whose entire village is extremely poor and they have to work in fields because they had no rain and they were supposed to flood the rivers to do their work. The Jade Dragon stopped making rain. Her four children, Yellow, Pearl, Long and Black, turned into rivers to keep life on earth from dying. Jade Dragon was unhappy about what she had done and turned into a river and her sad spirit turned into a fruitless mountain. Minli decides to go to the wise Man of the Moon to ask him when her family would get good fortune. Is she able to do it? What happens in the end? Find out!
Likes: I liked this book because it has fantasy and adventure. It also has dragons and talking gold fish! It is about a strong woman.
Recommendation: I recommend this Newbery Honor Book because it can help you improve vocabulary and the author has used special font when someone is narrating a story. The story has a lot of magic and mystery. It is very interesting and inspiring too.
